Bamboo Sunglasses – CAPE TOWN
Durable and unique sunglasses with high-quality lenses for optimal protection. These bamboo sunglasses have it all; you won’t want to take these off.
What makes these bamboo sunglasses so unique?
Because we use bamboo, we can guarantee that every single pair will be different. The visibility of wood grains in the frame not only gives the sunglasses a natural appearance it also ensures that each pair of sunglasses is truly unique. The reason for this is that every single bamboo stem has its own unique wood grains.
Why are these bamboo sunglasses excellent for my eyes?
Our bamboo sunglasses are equipped with polarised UV-400 lenses. These high-quality lenses provide optimal protection from the sun’s bright rays.
Why won’t I want to remove these bamboo sunglasses quickly?
Does it happen that the sun bothers you while reading outside? Or while you are driving? The last possible thing you want is a pair of sunglasses that weigh too heavily on your nose. Well, you don’t have to worry about that with these sunglasses. They are lightweight precisely because they are made from bamboo.
How do I protect my bamboo sunglasses from scratches?
The sunglasses come in a bamboo case, together with a cleaning cloth and a storage bag. This super handy case protects against bumps and scratches on rare occasions when you are not wearing them.
Why “Cape Town”?
Our sunglasses bear the names of cities for a particular reason. In fact, the places we selected can be linked to sustainability in some way. Remember when Cape Town was under the spell of “Day Zero” in 2018? Day Zero was the day when the city would go through its water resources, and therefore no more water would flow from the tap. As the city’s water consumption shrank from 700 million to 500 million litres per day, it fortunately never came to that. After the water shortages, large companies in the tourism sector continued to make innovations to save water. The prevention of Day Zero has made Cape Town a figurehead for water management.
Sustainable and animal-friendly bamboo
Like many of our products, these sunglasses mainly consist of bamboo. For various reasons, bamboo is a highly sustainable material. First of all, it is the fastest-growing plant in the world. The kind we use, moso bamboo, grows up to one meter per day under optimal conditions.
The origin and cycle of a bamboo plant are also very sustainable. Bamboo does not grow from seeds but one extensive root system. Using at least five-year-old bamboo keeps the root system healthy and intact, and new branches grow constantly.
Most importantly, however, we are not a threat to pandas. Their diet consists of more than 90% bamboo. Fortunately, they prefer to eat the leaves that grow close to the ground. Therefore, their choice does not fall on moso bamboo. The leaves of this kind grow too high.
Part of a greener world
Since our collaboration with the International Association of Human Values and Eden Reforestation Projects (ERP), we plant a tree for every purchase. We do this together with ERP, a world expert in tree planting. They operate in 8 countries on three different continents and already have nearly 500 million trees on the counter. With these bamboo sunglasses, you contribute directly to the restoration and preservation of forests. We are very grateful for that because together, we make a difference.
